✓ Client liaison. Having gathered competitor intelligence, your role will include presenting actionable insights to our clients, helping them make informed decisions about how to operate in their competitive landscape. Competitive intelligence analyst: Skills
✓ Search. You'll be comfortable using a range of competitive intelligence tools for CI research, from basic examination of competitor websites to advanced competitive intelligence tools for data analysis. Each new project may mean a new competitive intelligence tool. You will define the competitive intelligence strategy for each of your projects and plan how your competitive intelligence research will create actionable business intelligence for clients.
✓ Data analysis. Your competitive analysis will require processing large amounts of data - quantitative and qualitative - about a range of key competitors, and presenting recommendations to help clients with their strategic decision-making.
✓ Telephone interviews. A CI analyst has the skill to get people talking – even when those people have got better things to do. Competitor intelligence interviews go beyond traditional market research interviews, probing for highly specific information.
✓ Perseverance. The most valuable information is rarely easy to uncover. Competitive intelligence professionals keep digging to get the every last valuable insight.
✓ Flexibility. As you switch between clients, you’ll need to become an instant expert in new fields, quickly understand a new client's competitive landscape, so that you can sound cogent when you speak to sources.
✓ Analytical thinking. Having gathered intelligence, you’ll need to see the bigger picture and give an assessment of the overall meaning. But you'll be more than a data analyst - helping clients identify what is a competitive threat or an opportunity and how to create competitor strategies.
✓ Discretion. We’re not spies, but like all competitive intelligence professionals, we do have to be discrete, and respect our clients' need for privacy.
Competitive intelligence analyst: Experience
You probably have experience in B2B technology, and consulting. Possibly in competitive intelligence itself, although few of us did before coming to Aqute.
