What does a competitive intelligence analyst do all day?

During a recent competitive intelligence project with a long-time client, we measured the amount of time that each side spent on key activities (things like chewing your nails and spilling coffee were not included).

The result is a graphical representation of how the client analyst and the Aqute analyst split their time.

Actually, time allocation varies significantly between projects. One project may be largely about patent searches, one may involve no primary research at all, one may only require attendance at a three-day trade show. But these graphics provide some idea of what a competitive intelligence analyst does all day.
