A few weeks ago we wondered whether competitive intelligence might be in decline. One of the data sources we forgot to look at was Indeed's trend data about job listings. So here it is, and it seems to show that the demand for competitive intelligence employees is growing (as a % of all recruitment).
Approximating by visual examination of this chart suggests that over this ~5 year period, the percentage of job postings for each research category has increased as follows:
- Business intelligence +175%
- Competitive intelligence +135%
- Market intelligence +135%
- Market research +77%
The Indeed data suggests that competitive intelligence jobs are on the rise, in tune with growth across market research jobs more generally.
