What does a competitive intelligence analyst do all day?

During a recent competitive intelligence project with a long-time client, we measured the amount of time that each side spent on key activities (things like chewing your nails and spilling coffee were not included).

The result is a graphical representation of how the client analyst and the Aqute analyst split their time.

First, this is how the client-side analyst spent their time during this project:

Secondly, this is how the Aqute analyst spent their time during this project:

Actually, time allocation varies significantly between projects. One project may be largely about patent searches, one may involve no primary research at all, one may only require attendance at a three-day trade show. But these graphics provide some idea of what a competitive intelligence analyst does all day.

Does this look something like your own day?
